Camino update 7: Yes, now I’m a Proclaimer!

This was originally posted on beingthebestyoucanbeblog.wordpress.com on 10th June however this time I’m posting it on the 18th May which is when I arrived in Santiago last year.

This is indeed how I talk to people about my Camino. I’m a Proclaimer and if you grew up listening to the group ‘the Proclaimers’ as I did then you will of course know I’m talking about their song ‘I’m gonna be’. I often found myself walking along singing ‘but I would walk 500 miles’ however I didn’t add in the next line ‘And I would walk 500 more’ as I’m happy to leave that for the medieval pilgrims and any other modern ones who wish to walk both ways.

So yes, now that I’ve walked to Santiago from St Jean Pied de Port and have the certificate to prove it I can say quite honestly that as well as being a pilgrim, I am also a Proclaimer!

Camino update 6: Pilgrims are still humans

This post was originally posted on beingthebestyoucanbeblog.wordpress.com on this day last year as part of my Camino journey.

I am now in Rua with just one more night before walking into Santiago. I’m sure that once I reach Santiago there are many more posts to be written so let’s get this one finished beforehand.

If you’re looking for more travel updates then please check out those written for travelalphabetabc.wordpress.com.

Camino update 6: Sarria to Rua

This was posted on this day last year on travelalphabetabc.wordpress.com as part of my Camino journey.

So I am now in Rua on my final night before reaching Santiago tomorrow and I thought I should post now and leave Santiago to have it’s own post.

This is a travel post of what I have noticed along my Camino so of course you may have done it differently and that’s ok as we walk our own Camino. If you’re looking more for what the Camino can bring to you personally then please read beingthebestyoucanbeblog.wordpress.com as I will be updating it shortly.

If you wish to know how crazy and packed the Camino gets once you enter Sarria then please read on.

Camino update 5: I want to slow down

This was posted originally this day last year on beingthebestyoucanbeblog.wordpress.com as part of my Camino journey.

I am sitting in Melide finally finding time to blog about the last few days from Ponferrada. As the title says “I want to slow down” and I guess that’s why I want to post now rather than wait until Santiago.

If you’re looking for travel posts then go to travelalphabetabc.wordpress.com as I have just updated from Ponferrada to Sarria.

If you’re looking more for what the Camino can bring you personally then please read on.

Camino update 5: Ponferrada to Sarria

This was posted a year ago on travelalphabetabc.wordpress.com as part of my Camino journey.

I’m sitting in my room in Melide not on a rest day but I find myself with time before dinner and wanted to post before Santiago. I think it’s right to break up the last parts rather than writing about it in one go. If you’re looking more for what the Camino can offer you personally then check out my other posts on beingthebestyoucanbeblog.wordpress.com which I will update soon.

I can’t believe I will be in Santiago on Friday which is maybe why I wish to go back and write about the past few days.

A recommendation for Split, Croatia: Interview with Geoff from Fig restaurant

Recently, I spent some time in Split, Croatia which is a must visit destination in itself which I’m sure I’ll cover in a different post. For now, I want to recommend a place to eat which yes, for those who know me well will be a shock. It is rare for me to even remember what I’ve eaten never mind where, however when you find somewhere which offers great food (even vegetarian and vegan) and even better service, then it is certainly worth a recommendation. When I decided to interview Geoff, I was already preparing to move on to Dubrovnik so this interview took place over emails back and forth. I hope you enjoy it and also if you are fortunate to ever be in Split then please check out the Fig restaurant as I know you won’t be disappointed.

Camino update 4: We are so lucky

This was posted originally on this day last year as part of my Camino journey.

Well I’m now in Pontferrada enjoying my last rest day ahead of Santiago. For the next 11 days I will be walking closer and closer to Santiago with a changing amount of kilometres, terrain and incline each day.

If you have come to this post for the travel aspect of the Camino Frances then please go to Travelalphabetabc.wordpress.com which I will update after this one. The travel one will cover Leon to Pontferrada.

Camino update 4: Leon to Ponferrada

This was posted on this day last year on travelalphabetabc.wordpress.com as part of my Camino journey.

Today is my last rest day before I arrive in Santiago on the 18th May so I hope to post before Santiago. Over the past few days I have wanted to post especially when the walk or the place was particularly worth mentioning however no doubt sleep won in the end.

If you’re looking for posts more about what the Camino can offer you personally rather than travel updates then please check out beingthebestyoucanbeblog.wordpress.com as I have just posted the latest update there.

My 45 travel learnings so far

Recently, I shared 45 of my life learnings so far when I turned 45 last month. A lot of the rings which came to mind were also linked to travel so I decided to do a special travel one. Travel has been a big part of my 45 years even when I wasn’t able to travel, I was learning languages, reading books set abroad and also learning capitals when I was younger and getting others to test me. Camino update travel 3: Burgos to Leon

This was originally posted on travelalphabetabc.wordpress.com a year ago today.

I love rest days! This is my 3rd one so far and I am typing this from a room in Leon.

So Burgos to Leon has taken me 9 days of walking although some will do it in less and others more depending on the routes taken and the amount of kilometres pilgrims wish to walk each day. For me, it’s not a race, I have nothing to prove and I also have the luxury of not having to rush back to work whilst others only have a set time. I also like to stop, breathe, take photos, chat with people along the way, notice the mountains to my right or left or sometimes all around me and due to blisters and raw ankles I’ve also had to walk slow for the past 2 or 3 weeks. We all walk our own Camino so this is my story and yours can be whatever you want it to be. Isn’t that wonderful!
